Students
Promotion
Students shall
progress through the Metropolitan Adult Education Programs by demonstrating a
growth in learning the required basic skills.
To continue each year in the Adult Basic Education program, each ABE
student must show progression from one grade level or learning level to another
as set by Board Policy.
Indications of
ABE student progression required in a school year would include: Progressing one grade level in reading and/or
writing; showing mastery of multiplication and division at Math Level II;
mastery of fractions, decimals, and percents at Math Level III; and to indicate
mastery of level competencies within each learning level, achievement level as
defined by Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) and the
California Department of Education.
Alternative learning options will be explained to any student unable to
demonstrate growth in Adult Basic Skills.
Progress of an
adult toward high school graduation through the Metropolitan Adult Education Program
shall be based on the adult’s ability to earn the required 190 credits, at
least 20 of which must be in MAEP curriculum, or by concurrent enrollment in
MAEP and CCOC, and on the adult’s ability to pass the California High School
Exit Exams in English-Language Arts and Mathematics.
