Regarding Social Security Numbers
The Privacy Act of 1974
section 7 (b) requires that “(a)ny Federal, State or local government agency,
including public schools, which requests an individual to disclose his social
security account number shall inform that individual whether that disclosure is
mandatory or voluntary, by what statutory or other authority such number is
solicited, and what uses will be made of it.”
MetroED requires the
collection of social security numbers for training preparation courses that
require State certification or licensure such as:
·
Cosmetology
·
Dental Assisting
·
Certified Nurse
Assisting,
·
Surg Tech
·
Licensed
Vocational Nurse
·
Home Health Aide
·
Acute Care
The social security number
is collected as a confidential attribute associated with a student who is in
CTE training classes that require state certification where a social security
number is mandatory for state certification.
The student social security number will be a confidential record, and
not used as a student registration identification number.
Any training preparation
program that requires State certification or licensure wherein a social
security number is mandatory should NOT accept students into the program who do
not possess a social security number.
