Gifts to School Personnel
A certificated person shall not accept
any compensation, benefit, or thing of value other than his/her regular
compensation for the performance of any service, which he/she is required to
render in the course and scope of his/her certificated employment. This rule shall not restrict performance of
any overtime or supplemental services at the request of the school employer;
nor shall it apply to or restrict the acceptance of gifts or tokens of minimal
value (not to exceed a value of $10) offered and accepted openly from students,
parents or other persons in recognition or appreciation of service.
Gifts from Students
The acceptance of gifts or tokens, from
students, though very complimentary to the person receiving the gift or token,
puts the employee and MetroED in a position that could create a conflict of
interest. A practice of receiving gifts
can put the employee in a position of criticism and perception of favoritism,
real or not. The acceptance of money as
a gift or gift certificates from students by any MetroED employee, in any
amount is not allowed, under any circumstances.
Gifts from Vendors/Sales Persons
MetroED employees shall not accept gifts,
tokens, and money and/or gift certificates from any sales person, vendor or
potential vendor that exceed a value of $10.00.
