Career Technical Education
The Governing Board
desires to provide a quality, expanded and modernized vocational and technical
education program which provides services and activities that are of sufficient
size, scope and quality to be effective. The Governing Board affirms the
importance of providing all students with quality career technical education
experiences that teach life skills, demonstrate the
value of work and provide training that leads to entry-level employment. The
Board views career technical education and academic education as
complementary educational programs. A
comprehensive career technical education program includes the
development of career awareness, exploration of jobs, career technical
counseling, establishment of career goals, and the development of job skills
and good work attitudes.
To maintain the
flexibility of our country’s rapidly changing job market demands, young people
today must be competent in basic skills.
The district's program shall provide linkages between secondary and
postsecondary career technical education, including the implementation of
tech-prep programs. Students shall also be given a strong experience and
understanding of all aspects of an industry. The Board expects career technical instruction
to reinforce the academic core. Teachers
should endeavor to present related academic and vocational course materials in
a coordinated fashion whenever possible.
To the extent that they
incorporate comparable academic content and achievement, career technical
education courses shall fulfill portions of high school graduation requirements
for both the District and participating districts.
The Board recognizes that
career technical education is best presented in a well-planned sequence of
courses, with instruction first given in broad clusters of skills basic to
similar occupations. The Board supports
the integrations of technological education throughout the curricula to meet
the needs of all students.
The Superintendent or
designee shall expand the use of technology in the district's career technical
program. He/she shall also provide professional development programs to
teachers, counselors and administrators designed to provide effective practices
to improve parental and community involvement and to ensure that teachers stay
current with an industry.
The district's program
shall provide equal access to students who are members of special
populations. Students who are members of
special populations shall not be unlawfully discriminated against on the basis
of their status as a member of a special population. (20 USC 2354)
Expenditures of
Supplemental Funding
Every three years, the
Board shall compare the district's existing vocational
curriculum, course content and course sequence with model state
curriculum standards. (Education
Vocational programs
offered by the District shall have standards of excellence set high enough to challenge
all students. District personnel shall
continually review and compare our vocational courses with the model curriculum
standards and frameworks that have been developed by the State Department of
Education. When examining these
programs, staff members shall seek input from members of the
business and industrial community.
