What is the annual Registration Fee?
An Annual Registration Fee of $30.00 will be assessed for ALL ADULT students who take a class at MetroED (includes all CCOC and MAEP classes). This registration fee will cover any and all classes taken during the school year. Refunds will be given ONLY if a class is filled or is canceled, due to insufficient enrollment, and the student is not registered in any other class.
Why are classes only available to adults in the San Jose Unified School District service area?
In January 2011, the San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD) Board of Education unanimously voted to keep 3.5 million dollars of the funds received from the state for adult education. MAEP administers the adult education program for the SJUSD. Due to a reduction of two-thirds of the funding for MAEP programs, it was necessary to consolidate classes into one main site at the Metropolitan Adult Education Center. This necessitated a reduction in the number of classes taught and students that could be served beginning July 1, 2011. The consolidation will allow MAEP to provide a leaner and more efficient program, while continuing to offer outstanding service to students and the community.
Are there programs available for adults not in the SJUSD service area?
The GED Testing Center and the adult credentialing program are open to all adults. More information on these programs is available at www.MetroED.net.
