Silicon Valley Adult Education joins other California adult schools in honoring teachers and students in programs that prepare students for employment. Adult and Continuing Education Week is celebrated April 9-13, 2018. The week’s theme is “Today’s Students, Tomorrow’s Workforce.” The school provides instruction to over 1,200 adults every year in response to the many different and important educational needs in the San Jose community.

“Many people want to work in our community and we can help them develop skills to fill local jobs that are available,” said Silicon Valley Adult Education principal, Gloria Curd. “Our Adult Basic EducationHigh School Diploma and ESL classes lay the groundwork to meet the basic skills required by employers. Those who already possess those skills can step right into our career training programs in such fields as healthcare, automotive repair, and construction trades, many of which lead to paid internships.”

Silicon Valley Adult Education hosted their annual International Day on March 30, filling the school auditorium. Students performed cultural dances and songs from around the world, including South Korea, Vietnam, Iran, Russia, Mexico, Ethiopia, Guatemala, and Brazil. The event was streamed on Facebook Live. Photos from the event are available on Facebook.

The MetroED Governing Board recognized the school’s 135th anniversary in San Jose and signed Resolution #04-02-14-18 celebrating Adult Education Week. Like many California adult schools, Silicon Valley Adult Education provides opportunities for adults in English-as-a-Second-Language, Adult Basic Skills, high school diploma, high school equivalency test preparation, and career technical education classes that aid adults becoming literate, career and college ready, and active participants in their community.
