MAEP GED Test Center Moves to New Location August 16

The Metropolitan Adult Education Program (MAEP) GED testing center will move from the Erikson Adult Education Center on Pearl Avenue to the Metropolitan Adult Education Center at 760 Hillsdale Avenue in San Jose, effective August 16. The Hillsdale location offers more student parking, is centrally located in San Jose, and is easily accessible by all forms of public transportation.

MAEP's GED testing center is one of the two official test sites in the county. MAEP offers GED Testing Preparation classes in addition to the GED tests. The cost for all five GED tests is $125 and last year, MAEP's GED center served more than 800 students.

The GED series of five tests covers the core academic areas of language arts, social studies, science and math to earn their GED. Students must also write an essay on an assigned topic as part of the Language Arts, Writing Test. GED tests are designed to allow those who have not completed traditional high school to earn a high school equivalency certificate upon receiving a passing score on the tests. Before taking the GED test, students must complete a free but required GED test registration workshop available on specific dates.

Those who need assistance preparing for the GED tests can get help from volunteer tutors at the San Jose Pearl Avenue Library. Tutors have been helping students, throughout the summer, using the same books that are used in the MAEP GED Test preparation classes. The goal is to help students be successful at passing their GED tests on their first attempt and to bring more community members to the library.

The MAEP GED testing center has been approved by the California Department of Education and offers tests English only. MAEP also offers accommodations to individuals with disabilities including tests in large print, Braille or audio.
