CCOC's to Host Third Annual Public Safety Completer Ceremony
Central County Occupational Center (CCOC) will host the Third Annual Public Safety Completer Ceremony on June 4, at 5:30 p.m. at 760 Hillsdale Ave, San Jose in the auditorium. The ceremony recognizes more than 100 students that have completed CCOC’s Law Enforcement or Fire Science/First Responder programs.
“CCOC’s Law Enforcement and Fire Science/First Responder students worked very hard and deserve this one night of recognition,” CCOC’s Law Enforcement Instructor, Rico Sciaky, said. “My hope is that these students realize the need for police officers, firefighters, and EMT’s to serve the public in their communities.”
CCOC-a unit of MetroED, has one of the most advanced Law Enforcement Regional Occupational Programs in the state and uses a Firearms Training System similar to what law enforcement agencies use in police academies, Sciaky said. The Fire Science/First Responder program is taught by San Jose Fire Department Captain Oscar Tovar and retired San Jose Firefighter, Phil Gonzalez.
CCOC’s Law Enforcement and Fire Science/First Responder Program is open to high school juniors and seniors from six high school districts: Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District, Campbell Union High School District, East Side Union High School District, San Jose Unified, Milpitas Unified, and the Santa Clara Unified District. Students learn the nuts and bolts of law enforcement and Fire Science/First Responder through similar methods used at police and fire academies with a variety of hands-on experiences.
MetroED is the largest career-oriented educational organization in
Santa Clara County, comprised of high school and adult occupational,
academic and community programs.
MetroED annually provides 31,000 diverse students with the skills
to help them be productive, income-earning and tax-paying contributors to
Silicon Valley.
