MetroED's CCOC to Host 3rd Annual Broc Glover Breathe Easy Ride (Bay Area) Fundraiser to Benefit Cystic Fibrosis
The 3rd Annual Broc Glover Breathe Easy Ride (Bay Area) Fundraiser to benefit
Cystic Fibrosis will be held at MetroED's Central County Occupational Center (CCOC),
at 760 Hillsdale Avenue, San Jose, on October 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The ride itself is between 1 hour and 15 minutes to nearly two hours depending on if a rider
picks the 40 or 55 mile route. Both courses will take riders through San Jose, Saratoga, and Los
Gatos before returning to CCOC. The event features a motorcycle ride, event celebrities, music,
activities for non-riders, lunch provided by BJ's restaurant, and a silent auction.
All money raised at the Breathe Easy Charity motorcycle ride benefits the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation. Last year's event, held at CCOC, raised more than $16,000. Professional motorcycle
riders Broc Glover, whose son has Cystic Fibrosis, and 2007 Daytona 200 winner, Steve Rapp will ride in this year's event.
Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects more than 30,000 people in the
United States and 70,000 people worldwide. The disease causes the body to produce a thick mucus
that clogs the lungs and can lead to life threatening lung infections. It also obstructs the
pancreas and stops natural enzymes, preventing the body from breaking down and absorbing food.
The BERBA ride is co- organized by former CCOC student Brett Barker, who suffers from CF and
who received a double lung transplant in April, and his girlfriend, Amber Van Der Veen,
an English teacher at Santa Teresa High School.
Visit http://www.BER-BayArea.com to pre-register for the event. Cost to pre-register
is $25 which includes a light breakfast at check in, lunch from BJ's Restaurant and a
rider goodie bag. Riders are encouraged to fundraise and Barker hopes to raise $25,000 at this year's event.
To ensure a great experience for everyone, space is limited to 120 motorcycle riders and family of
participating riders are encouraged to attend the event. Register today at http://www.BER-BayArea.com.
