J. Manuel Herrera Appointed to MetroED Governing Board

J. Manuel Herrera was recently appointed by the East Side Union High School District Board of Trustees to serve as a Board Member for the Metropolitan Education District. Herrera previously served on the MetroED Governing Board from January 2007 to December 2008. His first Governing Board Meeting of this appointment will be January 18, 2012.

MetroED consists of two programs—Central County Occupational Center (CCOC) and the Metropolitan Adult Education Program (MAEP) and is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) that serves six high school districts: Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District, Campbell Union High School District, East Side Union High School District, San Jose Unified School District, Milpitas Unified, and the Santa Clara Unified School District. Each JPA district appoints a Governing Board Member to serve as a representative on MetroED's Board for a two year term. Herrera was appointed to MetroED's Board at ESUHD's December 2011 Board meeting.

Herrera was elected to the ESUHSD Governing Board in 1990 and is the 2012 ESUHSD Board Clerk. Herrera is a Public Sector Consultant, working with Bay Area nonprofit agencies, local governments, and elected officials. He is a graduate of William C. Overfelt High School, attended the University of the Pacific, and has a Masters Degree in Urban Studies from Occidental College.

MetroED annually provides more than 10,000 diverse students with the skills to help them be productive, income earning and tax-paying contributors to Silicon Valley.
