CCOC to Hold 40th Annual Open House

Celebrate 40 years of career technical education at Central County Occupational Center’s (CCOC) annual Open House on March 27. The community is invited to tour and observe hands-on student demonstrations and presentations throughout CCOC, located at 760 Hillsdale Avenue, San Jose.

CCOC’s staff and student tour guides will be on hand to welcome parents, other students, businesses and community members to tour classes and observe hands-on student demonstrations throughout the campus on March 27 from 8-10 a.m., 1-3 p.m., and 6-8:30 p.m. CCOC’s Culinary Arts and Baking & Catering Programs will offer a complimentary bowl of chili for visitors who stop by the cafeteria between 5 and 6 p.m. (while supplies last).

CCOC-a unit of MetroED-offers more than 30 different technical training courses such as Veterinary Assisting, Fire Science/First Responder, Law Enforcement, Electrical Maintenance, Computer Technology Careers, Animation, Baking & Catering, Culinary Arts, Auto Body Refinishing, Auto Brakes & Alignment, and Interior Design.

Be sure to stop by all of CCOC’s classes for special demonstrations such as in the Veterinary Assisting class which will have animals and demonstrate a variety of veterinary assisting skills like suturing and bathing/grooming dogs. CCOC's Interior Design class will hold its annual design show featuring product brands. Teams of students will design rooms based on a product brand that will influence their colors and styles selection. Rooms are decorated with furniture, lighting, accessories, sound, food, and any other personal touches to complete the room's theme. Visitors vote on which themed room is their favorite.

Students who choose to attend CCOC spend half-a-day at their regular high school and the other half of the day at CCOC in the career course of their choice. CCOC serves students from 36 high schools within six school districts: Campbell Union High School District, East Side Union High School District, Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District, Milpitas Unified School District, Santa Clara Unified School District, and San Jose Unified School District.
