HOSA Triumph: SVCTE Students Excel at State Competition

Students from Silicon Valley Career Technical Education attending the 2024 HOSA State Competition

Students from the Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) center demonstrated their expertise and proficiency in healthcare at the recent HOSA-Future Health Professionals State Competition April 4 through 6 in Anaheim, Calif.

With 23 students representing the institution, SVCTE showcased its commitment to excellence in healthcare education, bringing home two medals, including a gold medal in the Dental Science category for Denise Santillan Munoz, who attends Opportunity Youth Academy through the Santa Clara County Office of Education and a silver medal in the Pharmacology category for Emerald Nghiem who attends Silver Creek High School in East Side Union High School District.

Both will continue on to the HOSA’s International Leadership Conference, which will take place from June 26 through 29. In addition to teams from all 50 states, competitors will also travel to Houston from Mexico, Samoa, China, Korea, Canada and other countries, making it a rare opportunity for cultural exchange.

During the state competition, participants perform procedures, demonstrations, displays or speeches, with competitive events divided into seven categories: health science, emergency preparedness, teamwork, ATC Testing, health professions, leadership and recognition.

Participating students come from our partner school districts, such as Campbell Union High School District, East Side Union High School District, Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District, Milpitas Unified High School District, San Jose Unified High School District, Santa Clara County Office of Education, and Santa Clara Unified High School District.

As SVCTE celebrates these remarkable accomplishments, it reaffirms its commitment to providing students unparalleled opportunities for growth, learning, and success. The triumphs at the HOSA State Competition stand as a testament to the resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit of SVCTE students, who continue to inspire and lead by example in the pursuit of excellence in healthcare education.

HOSA is an international platform that provides students with health science education and biomedical science programs with exclusive motivation, recognition, support, and leadership development to all its future leaders as future healthcare leaders. The HOSA Competitive Events Program is particularly noteworthy.
