Advisor's Handbook

Message to Advisors

Dear Partners,

This handbook is developed each year to serve as a resource for students, parents, high school advisors, and members of the business community to provide information about the programs and services offered through Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE). Our programs are designed to offer students not only high school credits for graduation requirements but also to prepare them for entry level positions and post-secondary education.

Through the Joint Powers Authority governing board of the Metropolitan Education District, Silicon Valley Career Technical Education serves six school districts in Santa Clara County and provides our partnering districts’ students with quality training and career guidance. Silicon Valley Career Technical Education serves over thirty high schools from the following six districts: Campbell Union High School District, East Side Union High School District, Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District, Milpitas Unified School District, San Jose Unified School District and Santa Clara Unified School District. A critical factor in the delivery of this training is the communication and coordination provided by district high school advisors and others in the capacity of directing students to the opportunities that are awaiting them at the Silicon Valley Career Technical Education Center. Program information delivered by our high school partners is invaluable to our students’ success.

As the necessity for our students to be prepared for both post-secondary training and education as well as for career entry grows more each year, Silicon Valley Career Technical Education stands ready to serve our students and the communities in which they live. The technical training, academic preparation, and life skills taught through the variety of course offerings at the Silicon Valley Career Technical Education Center assist students in the preparation for gainful careers. All Silicon Valley Career Technical Education programs are supported by an active advisory board to ensure that all Silicon Valley Career Technical Education course curriculum, equipment, and processes are current with business and industry standards. In addition to the community support of our advisory boards, Silicon Valley Career Technical Education also enjoys a dynamic partnership with our community colleges, and, as a result, many Silicon Valley Career Technical Education programs offer college credit available through articulation agreements.

Our dedicated staff at Silicon Valley Career Technical Education is prepared to continue in the fine tradition of offering superior CTE programs to the students of Santa Clara County.
