Forensic Science (UC "d")

Develop the knowledge and training related to forensics while exploring the procedures to solve crimes. Topics include investigating crime scenes and laboratory safety rules and regulations. Students will be introduced to over 30 sciences that can be chosen as a specialization for future education. The class focuses on academic, technical skills, and employability practices. Students will develop personal and professional skills in the classroom that will transfer to the workplace:

  • Appreciation for the importance of applied ethics and maintaining standards
  • Crime scene analysis from contamination controls through identification, documentation, and collection of evidence
  • Applied systematic planning and searching of crime scenes
  • Laboratory methodology for physical, chemical,  and biological analysis of evidence
  • Preparation of initial and final reports to meet judicial requirements
  • Identification of specialty forensic resources available

Marty Eryavec comes to Silicon Valley Career Technical Education with 30 years of law enforcement experience including five years with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff/Coroner’s Investigative Unit. This includes more than 1,000 unattended death investigations and a dozen homicides. The last year of his career in law enforcement was spent as an Instructor/Training Officer at the South Bay Public Safety Training Consortium at Evergreen Valley College
