Metropolitan Education District (MetroED) Superintendent Alyssa Lynch is well known throughout the career technical education (CTE) community, and her passion for this work shows. That is why she was chosen as the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region 8 Women’s Leadership Network November Profile in Leadership.
Periodically throughout the year, ACSA Region 8 honors women leaders in Santa Clara County. These Profiles in Leadership serve to inspire and empower, and include a brief description of their journey in leadership, onsight about their thoughts of equity and how or why they empower others is also often included. The Profile in Leadership is disseminated on the ACSA Region 8 website and LinkedIn.
For the November Profile in Leadership, Superintendent Lynch was nominated by Dr. Mary Ann Dewan, superintendent of the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE).
“Alyssa’s advocacy for high quality programming demonstrates a commitment to equity. Her leadership is inspiring others to expand CTE for our youth,” she said.
Before joining MetroED, Superintendent Lynch was the Career Technical Education Director at the SCCOE for nine years. She is now at the helm of MetroED, the CTE and Adult Education leader in Silicon Valley that “prepares high school and adult students for future success in college and careers,” according to the Mission Statement.
Superintendent Lynch rebranded MetroED from 2013 to 2016, has increased visibility on social media and in publicity, and contributes regularly to publications, including the San Jose Mercury News. Superintendent Lynch also regularly testifies in Sacramento on legislation regarding the importance of CTE and CTE funding.
“I am humbled and honored to be recognized as an inspiring female leader in Santa Clara County,” said Superintendent Lynch. “I am grateful to have had so many female role models over the years who inspired and motivated me. I have always hoped to motivate the next generation of female leaders to pave new paths for students and the community.”
In the Leadership Profile, she credits ACSA for being where she is today. Superintendent Lynch served six years on the ACSA State CTE Council, and five years on the Region 8 ACSA Awards Committee.
In addition to this Profile in Leadership, Superintendent Lynch has garnered other awards. In 2018, she was honored as Santa Clara County Superintendent of the Year. In 2016, Silicon Valley Business Journal named her one of the Women of Influence. In 2008, she was named the ACSA state Career Technical Education Administrator of the Year for California.
