Superintendent's Message

Hello,

This month, Metropolitan Education District (MetroED) is embarking on a journey of celebration and appreciation for Career and Technical Education (CTE). February marks the nationwide recognition of CTE Month—a time to honor CTE's invaluable contributions to our students, programs, and communities. Our stellar teachers bring years of industry experience with them to create courses that are rich with practical applications and real-life experiences.

MetroED knows the critical role that CTE plays in preparing students for success in both their academic and professional lives. The data below conveys a powerful message:

Through hands-on learning experiences, industry-aligned curriculum, and meaningful partnerships with local businesses, our programs empower students to explore their passions, develop valuable skills, and pursue promising careers.

CTE delivers rigorous, relevant information and enriches academics, forging students into job and career-ready powerhouses with a well-rounded foundation.

See what we are doing to this month celebrate below.

MetroED is building a brighter future for our students and our community.

Be well,

Alyssa Lynch

Lynch came to MetroED in 2013 after working for the Santa Clara County Office of Education for nine years and Mission Valley ROP for 11 years.

“Choosing to retire was difficult,” Lynch said, adding she is grateful to have had the chance to be a superintendent. Read more

Electrical Vehicles/Automotive Services

Tune in to the 26:43 minute mark to watch a presentation by teacher Tom Nemeth, who shared valuable information about his program’s curriculum, industry partnerships, and more. Former Auto Services student Mohammad Rustam Sadiqi joined Mr. Nemeth, talking about his journey with the program, which led him to reinvent his career working for a DGDG Hyundai dealership.

Mechatronics Engineering

Mechatronics Engineering students have been working on their Rube Goldberg project, a kinetic machine sequence that is built in teams, with teacher Jim Burnham. It includes coding on the Arduino microcontroller, sensors, servos, and motors.

Students have to "sense" something in the world with electronic sensors, like distance, temperature, magnetic, motion, etc. This sensor input is detected by their C++ code running in an Arduino, and then the code tells a motor or servo to move. In between is Duct tape, Dominos, string, hot wheel cars, ping pong balls, marbles, and all kinds of other kinetic chaos. Videos here

February is Black History Month

MetroED proudly commemorates Black History Month. This month gives us the meaningful opportunity to honor the many achievements of African Americans and recognize their prominent role in history. American Historian Carter G. Woodson created Black History Month, which has inspired schools and communities across the nation to organize local celebrations, create black history clubs and host performances and lectures.
