The Metropolitan Education District (MetroED) has been recognized by the California School Public Relations Association (CalSPRA) for outstanding achievement in communications, earning statewide honors in its Excellence in Communications Awards program. CalSPRA is a nationally recognized leader in school communications, with more than 850 members throughout California representing school districts, county offices, and other education professionals.
 
The CalSPRA Excellence in Communications Awards program recognizes exemplary work that demonstrates strategic communication, creativity, and impact in supporting public education. MetroED’s recognition highlights the District’s commitment to tell meaningful stories, engage the community, and elevate Career Technical Education (CTE) through high-quality, accessible communications.

  • Award of Excellence or Award of Merit (To be announced March 13): High Tea Event Video (2:39 minutes): SVCTE students from Fashion Design and Textile Art in collaboration with Culinary Arts hold this annual event. Last year a record-breaking number of more than 100 people attended the event, ranging from City of San Jose and organization employees to Governing Board Members, MetroED administrators, and SVCTE students.
 
  • Award of Excellence or Award of Merit (To be announced March 13): SkillsUSA Board Livestreaming Video (36:21 minutes): This video focuses on the Career Technical Student Organization SkillsUSA, showcasing the leadership development, technical skills, and career-readiness opportunities it provides to students. SkillsUSA is a cornerstone of MetroED’s mission to equip students with the skills, confidence, and real-world experience necessary for success, aligning directly with our vision of fostering empowered, career-ready learners.

  • Award of Excellence: Wellness Newsletter: MetroED launched its newsletter, “Happy and Healthy Wellness Wednesday,” in November 2020 to serve its employees and provide mental and emotional wellness resources for total health: mind, body, and spirit. The newsletter was created to share and integrate self-care practice into the workday and serve as an employee well-being resource on and off the job.

  • Award of Merit: Internet/Intranet/Website: MetroED redesigned district and program websites, and was recognized for creating a modern, mobile-responsive communications hub that improved access to information and community engagement. Launched in 2021, the streamlined platform features enhanced navigation, multilingual access, and integrated tools that better served students, families, staff, and the broader community.

  • Award of Excellence: MetroED Annual Report 2017: The MetroED Annual Report highlights the district’s services, student achievements, milestones, and key accomplishments from the year, showcasing its impact on college and career readiness. It serves as a snapshot of MetroED’s programs, progress, and commitment to preparing students for future success 
 
  • Award of Excellence: SVCTE.org Website: SVCTE’s website, svcte.org, was recognized for showcasing student voice, hands-on learning, and real-world career pathways. The honor highlighted the site’s success in clearly connecting students, families, and the community to the impactful work happening across SVCTE programs.
 
  • Award of Excellence: CTE Under Threat Op-Ed: The op-ed from The Mercury News makes a compelling case for sustained, long-term funding for Career Technical Education (CTE), highlighting how decades of underinvestment have widened the skills gap and left employers struggling to find trained workers. Drawing on statewide data and firsthand experience, it shows how CTE programs change lives, strengthen local economies, and remain essential to California’s future workforce.
 
  • Award of Merit: SVCTE Courses Brochure: The SVCTE Courses Brochure showcases the district’s hands-on, career-focused programs through a clear and engaging overview of SVCTE and its course offerings. Thoughtfully combining concise descriptions with compelling visuals, the piece connects students and families to real-world learning opportunities while highlighting the district’s commitment to accessible, high-quality career technical education.
