2025-2026 Reopener Negotiations
On September 2, 2026, the California School Employees Association (CSEA) and the Metropolitan Education District (MetroED) reached a Tentative Agreement on reopener negotiations for the 2025-26 school year.
The parties met over multiple bargaining sessions to exchange proposals, share rationale and supporting data, and work collaboratively toward resolution.
CSEA ratified the Tentative Agreement with its members on September 21, 2026. The MetroED Governing Board will consider ratification of the Tentative Agreement at its October 7, 2026, Board meeting. Approval of the agreement will allow the District to move forward with implementing the negotiated terms, including salary schedule adjustments and other agreed-upon changes.

Article 10000 - Salary Schedule Placement
- Added language to enhance clarity on initial step placement and credit for new unit members
- CSEA bargaining unit members currently employed with the District as of September 9, 2026, with a start date on or after July 1, 2021, who are not at the top step of their range on the classified salary schedule may petition the District within 30 days of ratification of the 2025-26 reopener agreement to adjust their placement on the salary schedule for documented qualifying prior years of relevant non-district work experience

Article 18000 - Transfer, Promotion, and Filling Vacancies
- Added clarifying language for probationary employees who are promoted by the District
- Added language regarding posting authorized vacancies
- Added language to enhance clarity regarding interview committees
Article 23000 - Benefits
- Memorandum of Understanding between MetroED and CSEA wherein the District agrees to pay the entire amount over the composite cap for employees’ health insurance for the 2025-2026 school year, thereby saving each CSEA employee using District health insurance $210.
Article 24000 - Salary
- Three Percent (3%) on-schedule salary increase retroactive to July 1, 2025

The District and California School Employees Association (CSEA) will present their respective sunshine proposals for the 2025–2026 contract reopener to the Governing Board on January 14, 2026. The second required public disclosure will occur on February 11, 2026. Following completion of this process, the parties may begin negotiations.
