Volunteer Clearance Procedures
MetroED values the contributions volunteers make in enriching our programs and supporting our students, and we appreciate your interest in volunteering in our classrooms.
Importance of Clearance and Safety Precautions:
The safety of our students, staff, and all visitors, including our valued volunteers, is a top priority. To help ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone, all volunteers undergo a clearance process and complete basic training before commencing their work. This process helps confirm that volunteers are approved to work with students and meet the important health and safety guidelines set by California Education Codes and the MetroED Board Policy and Regulation 1240.
Please note that you’ll need to wait until both the MetroED Human Resources Department and your program’s administration have officially approved your clearance before beginning any volunteer activities.
In addition to the background checks, you will be asked to provide emergency contact information as part of the application process to ensure your safety and preparedness in case of an emergency or injury.
Even if you have completed fingerprinting or TB testing for another organization, all MetroED volunteers are required to complete a new background check, fingerprinting, and tuberculosis (TB) screening as part of our clearance process. These steps are required for all volunteers, regardless of age, and help us maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
Application Process:
To get started, please follow the checklist below to complete your volunteer application. Once all documents are completed and signed by your program administrator, please contact the Human Resources office at hr@metroed.net for volunteer clearance and processing.
